Sealant that's compatible with fuel

Dropped the tank to do some work and no surprise, my original welds aren't leak proof. The setup works otherwise so I was hoping I could just put some sealant over the seams. Does such a sealant exist?

Thanks

Trey, take a look at a product called Seal All. It is supposedly oil, gasoline, and alcohol resistant. It's a contact adhesive/ sealant. I've never used any before, for whats that worth. You can purchase the stuff at Advance Auto.

I was going to recommend Seal-All myself. We have a lot of locals who use it to repair gas tanks. Working in a parts store you rarely find people who want to do it "the right way", so yeah, we sell a lot!

Pull it and get it brazed up Trey. That will most likely fail when you least expect it and probably not in a favorable way.

Thanks guys. I've thought about draining it and getting it brazed or rewelding it since it is out of the car. It not leaking much at all and only at the top when the tank is very full. I'd say it's weeping more than anything. No drips on the ground or anything that's why I think a sealant will do me just fine.

I did find that Spectra has finally released an EFI tank for these cars years after having the early 2nd gen tank available. I'm just not ready to spend $700 on a tank setup when I have one that works.

Thanks

Smaller leaks are the worst, there is still a lot of vapors collecting under there. Are you sure it's not a sender seal not seating?

Make sure you clean it up good.

That's mainly what I'm trying to stop is the smell when the tank is full. I'll double check but the leaks are around the plate I put in that holds the sender/pump assembly.

Around the perimeter of the recessed plate is where it's weeping from.

MIL-8802 fuel tank sealant. Comes in different work times, half hour to two hours. Can be bought at Aircraft spruce or wicks.
