More on the fast and furious 3 mustang

here's a write up about it, and some better shots, to show how crappy it really is.. It comes out at cinemas here in a week or 2.

Twin turbo and maybe 320 horse!!!!! How cool!!!!
NOT. Whats the point of doing all that work for what you get out of a naturaly asperated 350.

Now I know I used to be import owner(its gone now) and I liked some of the exhausts out there for them, but a single exit 4" rice muffler just doesn't look right on a mustang.

see the full story in the new hot rod, and how the actual jdm powered car out ran the 422" windsor powered cars....... of coarse they were set up for drifting, which means more power=more tire smoke.

regardless it was still an interesting read about the waste of more 67 fastbacks for cheezy movies.

These inline Nissan six bangers has been known to make 1,000 plus horsepower.
They really did not turn up the boost on that thing. Don't respect turbos? Look at how many V-8's are destroyed by 3.8 liter GNX buicks. Just something to think about.

"Now that the world knows a Nissan six will fit into a Mustang, will we see a whole rash of American musclecars powered by foreign engines? For God's sake, let's hope not."

This quote was taken from the "Track Test Two Mustangs Two Drivetrains" page 59 of the new Hot Rod mag.

I can't say that I wasn't pissed after reading this quote. Mainly because once my Nova is finished people are going to assume I got the idea from the movie. :lol:

I know of a few 60's muscle cars currently under construction(not including mine) that are powered by the 2JZGTE, one of which is a very nice 1st Gen Camaro.

For decades V8's have been swapped into smaller "foreign" vehicles so I see it very fitting to turn the tables for once.

They removed the twins because they wouldn't fit with the stock towers so they put in a big single instead. All that car needs is bigger injectors & some type of engine management and it could make 500-600WHP. For the same money spent on that set-up you'd be hard pressed to make that much power with a SB without N20.

I'm sorry but horses can't live on rice. That Mustang needs to to led to pasture and put out of it's misery with a bullet to the head. :rolleyes:

My brothers and I have fidled around with the import thing in the past and still work on some high horsepower imports from time to time, BUT I must say we can make way more power with less money using a V8 then a turbo charged import motor.

take for instance the parts cost on an import engine. just the pistons (forged) $1000 V8 $500 rods forged $1000 V8 $500 and so on and so forth. I have seen about a doven V8s with turbos making far more power then imports with turbos.

we built a Supra with all the right stuff and a big snail powering it and it laid down about 780whp but cost about $6000 in parts for the engine alone.

My opinion V8s any way you like will be hands down faster and more reliable.

There is no doubt in my mind that V8's will make more power with equal parts. However the 2JZ & RB do not need internal work to make the power you mentioned and still be reliable.

Here is what I have into my engine set-up so far.

JDM 2JZ = $2500
fluidampr = $400
standalone = $1250
USDM water pump = $100
USDM cams = $100
homemade intake manifold = $100 in materials
Q45 90mm throttle body = $100
Ebay exhaust manifold = $100
Ebay waste gate = $100
Ebay BOV = $100
used turbonetics T66 = $175
Banks intercooler(blemished) = $1
injectors = $350
fuel rail = $150
fuel pump = $300
homemade I/C pipes = $0
K&N = $50

I just barely went over my $5000 budget on this project. This combination can easily make 550-600WHP through an unlocked auto. I could have made 750-800 WHP with the T76 I had originally purchased with all the same money spent. I ended up changing my mind to make it more of an all around car than an all out drag beast.

I know eventually I will end up with a turbo small block in this car but it will be after this set-up gets used & abused for many years. :D
