Driveshaft length LT1/T-56 68 Camaro

Hi, this is my first post here...I've already searched through the forums for this info with no luck, so I thought I would post to see if anyone can offer some suggestion(s). I have a 68 Camaro that I am installing an LT1 and T-56. The car already has a factory original 12 bolt, but I'm not sure what size u-joint it has. Since I'll be using the factory motor mounts, I thought surely someone here can tell me what length driveshaft they used for a similar project? I have a friend that owns a salvage yard who is going to give me a shaft for free if I can find one in his "driveshaft pile" that will work. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

I hate doing this. If I give you this measurement, I will not be held responsible for it not fitting. You should measure with the trans in the car with the rear suspension at ride height. I've done tons of them, and I always got a measurement of 46-1/2" from center of U joint to center of U joint. I also used SBC frame mounts on the subframe.

Thanks...I'll see if he'll let me grab 2-3 shafts (most likely he will) I'll just use the one that works and take the rest back. :) He said a lot of the newer cars they're getting in have aluminum driveshafts in them, so I'm hoping to find a good one that'll work. I promise I won't come back on here to say "It didn't work" I just needed the ballpark measurement to get me close since he wants me to get the shaft(s) when I pick up the motor and transmission, hopefully Wednesday evening. BTW, I'll be using small block mounts as well.

Thanks again!
Geoff

Geoff, perhaps use this a reference. When I swapped out my big block/turbo 400 in my Monte, and replaced it with a LT1/T56, I had to shorten the shaft 2". The T56 uses the same yoke as a Turbo 350, and a 1310 series Universal.

I thought I would post to let it be known that 46.5" was on the dot perfect. I drove my car about 10 mi yesterday. :) I thought I would shout out a THANKS!
