Ford Nine Inch Aluminum Center Section???
1 Attachment(s)
What are your thoughts on this rear end housing?? Looks cool but???
|
Just remember that Aluminum has "durability issues". It should be used where servicing it is regular and ongoing (such as a race car)... and used where to win is everything - which means shaving weight for performance gains.
I ran a Strange aluminum pumpkin on my street driven '56 Nomad. It was a waste of money but it looked cool. |
It is sweet looking! It must have a big price bump?
|
Rick, I'm uneducated but I don't see why this would any different than an aluminum engine block or aluminum transmission case. Yeah, I guess not quite as strong as steel, but I don't see why it would be a problem. I think I saw this same rear on Ebay. I don't recall it being too expensive.

And yes I found it on eBay. |
Oh I think that rear end is bad ass! I just question some of the "all out race" stuff going into street cars. If it's a purpose built track car -- hell yeah. But for the street -- aluminum stuff can have issues that don't come up on the track because they're rebuilt and inspected all the time etc and you pay a lot of money extra for "kool" and then it becomes a problem. For street stuff I like things that are reliable and leak free etc. I don't know anything about that particular rear end - and it may be the perfect piece for the application.

For what it's worth.. I know guys that run alum 3rd members (not housings)on the street for years with no issues. I ran one in my red Camaro for 7 years and beat the hell out of it and never had a proplem. Yes i did remove it for inspection or gear changes and it always looked great .
That is a bad ass peice |
after chopping, squaring axle housings for so long....Im loving the bolt in axle tubes.
|
Vince where are you buying the housing ends? Moser, Currie? I picked up another housing that needs to be cut down and I need to research what ends to get for the brake set up I now have.
Thanks Dan |
