LT1 T56 upgrades
Are there any tips or tricks that should be followed when upgrading a T56 to make it shift better and just be even better than it already is? Or, is it really just a matter of replacing the known weak components with a quality kit and calling it good? I've never messed with transmissions before so I figured I better ask so I can be prepared when I do go into mine.

The shifting quality as per say won't really improve; however common upgrades are steel 3/4 shift fork (factory is alum and bends over time), billet keys (factory are stamped metal), and bronze fork pads (factory are plastic and can deform).
These bring the power rating up to 600rwtq. We have run one in this Stage2 config with 1000rwhp+ and no issues. It was a 3000lb car with driver and never launched hard (9.20@162mph best). The new style blocker rings are also carbon lined vs the older style which are not. Unless your synchros are worn out these upgrades won't make it shift better. The GTO style triple synchro trans shifts better... And the T56 magnum (tr6060) is the best. |
Thanks. I appreciate the response and information.
