Recognizing our Veterans
 

As a veteran, the observances of Rememberance Sunday, Rememberance Day and Veterans Day today have a special meaning to me.

My service in the United States Air Force created a personal connection that is at the heart of what I do today and why I am proud to be a member of the "retired military" team. I know many of you have similar connections either through your own service or through loved ones who have served or are serving in uniform.

Those in the armed services represent less than one percent of our national populations. These are special people who dedicated themselves to protecting the rest of us – our democracies and the freedoms we cherish.

It has been said many times that freedom is not free. Utilize this day to remember this fact and in honoring those who have sacrificed so much to protect our way of life.

There are no words that could ever express my level of love and appreciation to our Veterans. I hope that you all will accept my humble Thank You and understand.

To those I know and love and to those I don't know and will never meet....
THANK YOU for your hard work and dedication to preserving the safety, rights and honors our country has afforded us in our existence.
THANK YOU for being away from home for extended periods of time.
THANK YOU for living in sub par conditions.
THANK YOU for eating frozen, re-frozen, thawed re-frozen food.
THANK YOU for enduring the weather elements to all extremes.
THANK YOU for not giving up hope and always thinking of others first.
THANK YOU, just doesn't quite come close to really how much I honor and respect you....but it is the best I can do.

To all those who have ever heard the sound of incoming mortars, and have felt the fear that comes while you wait for the "thwump" sound they make as they do their deadly deed. To all those who have slept in foxholes, listening to the sounds of the firefight only a mile, or maybe a few "klicks" away. For all those who flew their missions, or who ever sat in full flight gear while "on alert." For all those who ever carried a wounded friend, or even a wounded enemy, to the rear so he could get the medical attention he needed, all the while praying he would hang on until you could get him "out of the ****." For all those who ate a meal on a rolling, heaving ship, or who have baked in the tropical sun, or chipped ice off the cables in gale force winds. For all those who know the dank pressure of traveling under tons of ice-cold ocean water and played the cat and mouse game that can lead to instant death.

To all those who ever swore the oath of fidelity to the United States Constitution, and wore the uniform of a soldier of the United States of America, with humble heart, and a recognition that though I try, I do not live up to the sacrifices you have made in securing my liberty, I heartily thank you and salute you.

Thank you to all who had served and who are currently serving. Stay safe and God bless.

Thank you to those that gave it their all and never came back.

Thanks to those that came back dismembered, and psychologically wounded.

We owe you more than words can describe.

Thank you to all that served and to the families and friends that supported them.
