trans x brace

Is a transmission cross member that also ties into the floor of the car worth the effort? I was thinking about building a new cross member to gain more clearance for the exhaust. Thought I might go ahead and tie it into the floor if it would help. I already have subframe connectors and g braces in the engine bay.

Thanks.

the more connection points between the two the better.

That's what I was thinking as well. I just wasn't sure if it would really make a difference at this point since I'm not a race car.

Thanks Vince

This is not me speaking in an official capacity, just as a regular guy.

In my opinion the biggest concern with mounting the trans mount to the stock tub would be the strength of the stock floor. Even though there is a crossmember under the tub, slightly forward of where the trans bolts up, it will likely be less strong than a standard trans crossmember. Also, that crossmember is there to reinforce the stock chassis, which is what the front clip is mounted to. Make sure you won't weaken it.

Our crossmembers are made with two thick walled tubes so they are nice and stiff and don't allow deflection. If the trans mount flexes you can break the trans case.

IMO, you can build it, but it's going to be a heck of a lot of work, no one is going to see it (if that's important to you), and the energy might be better directed into other parts of the project.

It's also going to transmit a lot more noise into the cabin if you mount it to the floor. Fine if it's a racy car, not so great for a touring car.

I agree with this guy ^^

I have solid mounts on my 5th gen and lg Motorsports chassis braces and have lots of interior noise including hearing every shift

I appreciate the response, Carl. I looked at it some more and it's going to have to wait until I pull the trans before I can even begin to do this. So plenty of time to consider if this is indeed worth the effort.

Def incorporate a cushion mount and leave the rubber trans mount

Cushion mount? My initial thoughts are to weld a continuous brace to the subframe and the floor and have a section that bolts to it that has the rubber mount to hold the transmission. Basically how DSE does or did their mounts.

Thanks Vince
