In another thread I mentioned buying a house with a shop in the back. I asked for ideas on the best tools and posted some pics to start. I figure I'd start a small thread on the shop since I've made a bit more progress. Mindset has changed based on a lot of feedback here. Mainly I've slowed down my tool purchases to better understand what my true needs are.

Here are some pics of the outside and interior as I bought it.

Behind the glass garage doors is an enclosed patio attached to the house. The previous owner had a UTV he raced Pikes Peak in there along with some bikes. It's too small to park a car in so I will need to come up with something fun to make it into some kind of lounge or something.

First step was to clear things out to clean and paint the floors I went with the Rustoleum 2 stage floor paint. I decided to leave out the chips to make it a solid color. It looks nice but I was surprised how quick my dog could scuff the shiny finish.

Next step was paint. I decided to prime the whole thing first to make sure there was no issue with the paint sticking or peeling

I went back and forward with my color combos but had an extra gallon of red so decided to try it first. I like the result so went with it..

For the top I wanted a grey and had some paint the previous owner left. I tested it but the color was too dark. I found a lighter color which is almost a primer grey but it worked perfect. I taped off a section between the colors to add a strip after.

After pulling off the tape I was really thinking to leave the white stripe. I decided to go ahead and paint it black as originally planned due to the ability to keep it clean. I did leave the baseboards white rather than painting black. If there is an issue I can always paint it later.

Yesterday I finally started to get some stuff organized so I can use it.

I picked up a drill/mill off of craigslist. It's a Harbor fright mill with a geared head. It's basically brand new and came with some accessories to get me going. The cost was a little more than a nice drill press so I decided to go for it.

I also picked up a JD2 model 32 bender with a 1.5" DOM die, stand and 4 20ft sections of tube for cheap so I snagged it. I have a TN-250 notcher on the way as well to go with the bended.

For air I picked up a huge Altas compressor that was basically brand new. It's a 7.5 hp 3 cyl model that produces 24cf @ 175 psi. It has an aftercooler and electric drain. I assume it will last longer than me. I just have to figure out how to get it in the shed. It's bigger than the doorway.....

To move all the stuff around I needed a special solution since my truck is huge and pulling trailers around back was difficult. I decide on a 4 wheeler and a Harbor Freight 4x8 foldable trailer. You can see the trailer in the pic above. You can also see a 1K truck crane from harbor freight as well. I want to mount that to the trails so I can load/unload heavy things wherever needed without hurting myself. I already have a double hernia I need to fix. Don't want to make it worse...

The quad was used and needs some work but it's pretty cool. Its a 400cc 4x4 with a 2" lift and new mud tires. I picked it up for cheap. It does tear up the yard a bit but is also a lot of fun... I was hoping it could move my boat but the tongue weight is too much. It also needs low gear which is only available in fwd. I'm going to try adding a new receiver hitch front and rear to it. I also might try building a ball mount on the 4x8 trailer to support the tongue weight. Lots of maybes, I need to keep thinking on it...

Some experience I'll share -- when painting a larger area like that.... Get some Home Depot or Lowe's 5 gallon buckets -- and get a 5 Gallon bucket screen sold in the paint department -- it hangs in the bucket.... and you run your roller against it. #1 -- carrying and moving around a 5 is so much easier -- and you can dip and roll so much faster because the bucket is more stable and the screen is "near vertical" so the bucket (or in your case the pan) isn't being pushed around.... #2 -- the bucket holds more paint so you're not constantly filling it. #3 -- if it's a multi day paint job -- you just leave the paint in the bucket and cover it with a DAMP towel.... Put your roller in a zip lock bag - seal it and stick it in the freezer --- just take in out of the freezer a few minutes before you'll start again. Don't handle the roller just unzip the bag grab the roller using the bag as a glove and slide it on the cage..... #4 -- Don't clean your cut brush either - fold it nicely in tin foil - to hold the nice brush shape - and slip it in another Zip lock bag - stuff this in the freezer too.... take it out when you want to use it again.

Figure you may be painting other rooms in the house -- so thought I'd toss in a couple pro's tricks. LOL

I used to move my boat around with my ATV, but I left the tongue weight on the tongue jack with a wheel on it. Worked okay on a hard surface but not off road at all.

That mill will be fun to use, You can do all kinds of stuff with it.

Ummm, woulda been nice to have those floors for the LS conversion huh? Just giving u sh$T!!! Looks great an very rewarding. So, could you showcase the camaro in that outdoor room?
