Finished the welding table

My brother and I have been gathering tools for the last two years to elevate our game. We have a small shop so it's tough to floor all of the tools we need without making it a circus in there. We needed a welding table to help consolidate the plasma and tig we bought recently. This is the result built by my brother yesterday. It's off to the powdercoater today. It's 4x8, 1/2 in. plate deck, .125 wall legs and supports, weighs about 1100 lbs., and has a clamp bar and cord holder. I think he did a great job. Let's weld some sh*#!

That table looks killer. One of my next projects is to build a table as well. Do you mind stating what your approximate materials cost was on the table?

Well done, they are a priceless and versatile work surface. Expanded metal shelves are the only way to fly.

Thanks guys. I was wrong, the legs are .250 after looking at my invoice for materials. Total cost for the steel was $972 from a local metal yard. We used 90% of a big bottle of Argon and about half a spool of wire.

Looks great!
Are you leaving the 1/2" top raw and powdercoating the rest?

I'm gonna leave the top raw steel that way I can use it as a ground from time to time. The rest will be competition orange like the rest of my stuff.

Totally awesomeness! I now need to add a clamp bar to mine...

What size of a bottle is a "big bottle" of gas...and what was your flow rate. Reasons I ask is my bottles at work last alot longer on much larger weldments and weld size. Also what size wire

NOPANTS68 02-13-2015 04:28 PM

I'm not sure what size it was. I know it's roughly four and a half feet tall. Rate's at 25 and everything seems pretty happy there. Wire was .035.

One thing I did differently on mine was that I didn't use wheels.... I use my floor jack to pick one end up and set it on cheap car dollies --- then pick the other end up with the jack and move it around. I wanted it super solid while in place and was afraid the wheels would allow it to move. My guess is - it's so f'n heavy that I wouldn't be able to move it if I wanted to.... So the wheels on yours is a nice addition.
