69 camaro door gaps
Trying to align my doors and front fenders on my 69 camaro. Just wondering if anyone had gap measurements from door to quarter panel and front fender to front of door? Or pictures might even be helpful.
Thanks, Jon |
factory assembly manual gives the gaps from the factory. I tend to set them about 1/4". I would like 3/16, but the door peak won't allow it.

Thanks, that might be my problem. I think the rear of door to quarter jamb is off.

You need to square the doors to the rocker and jamb before adjusting fender to door. I also adjust doors without strikers installed as well.

Finally got it. Once I ajusted doors it went perfect. Thanks

I would like to ask a couple question regarding body alignment.
My 67 obviously has vent windows, I installed doors with an even gap at the rocker panel and might still need to adjust front to back a little. The question is: should I put in the weatherstripping and the vent window before I finalized the quarter panel gaps? What confuses me is the door inner panel gap/ distance to the vertical inner welting that runs along the inside to the back panel ... can't remember what they call this stuff, I think I have the door too far back to put any welting on and still close the door. Does the weatherstripping conform to the body panels when the door is shut? I put on the drivers side door OER and the door seems too fat now when I close it.... too much pressure? Any helpful ideas would be appreciated, I would like to finalize my quarter and door alignment soon, need to move onto the other side! Here is some pixs of where I'm at: AMD door skin and GM quarter, GM rocker for reference, then I took off the GM quarter and it all went to ****E! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...540/oSJDdE.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...901/ZrmG9L.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...911/CNiy2i.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...538/eu1zUl.jpg Thanks, Michael |
Line the front edge of the door up with the front edge of rocker. See what that does to the qtr gap. I also see you have your car on a body cart. I think it would be best to have it sitting on suspension if at all possible. If you line up the front edge, Then see if the bottom gap is even along the bottom of door and rocker edge. Use the passengers side for reference if you haven't messed with those gaps yet. Just a few ideas..

I did both door skins at the same time, so no reference there, the quarter panel is still on the pass side but the AMD skins are not the same as the GM ... grrrrrr! I'll line up the front on the rocker and see if that helps. Do the professional shops gap everything W/O weatherstripping? And then just squish it when the door is closed? Thanks for commenting .... any other ideas or pictures of 67 gaps? Michael |

My doors seemed to close way to hard on the new weatherstripping ... as if, the gaps were TOO close! Thanks Kevin ... |
