I mean seriously, I'm glad they actually care if a car is stolen, but really?!? Zero common sense?!?

This is why I would not run historical plates on a car that gets driven outside of the state of issue. Even without leaving the state, I doubt I would run them on a vehicle that gets driven often.

How many errors can be made in one stop?
Someone made an input error on just about every number they checked.

Things went bad quickly for the poor couple that's for sure.
