Need help with axle offset problem
Hi guys
I have posted the problem I am having with wilwood brake kit and axle offset several times, yet have not resolved the problem. Here is the story I have ford 9" rear end with big ford new style end housing flanges. Wilwood offers two offsets, 2.36 and 2.5 offsets. I measured the housing end flange and axle flange and it is more than 2.5" offset. It is approximately 2.62 in offset. I guess whoever built this rear end did not pay attention and could care less about getting the right offsets. :bang: :bang: So now I really need to know the way forward to resolve this damn issue. What options do I have at this stage to get the offset to 2.5" and install the brake kit I have. |
Hmmm, interesting.... It really is not who built the rear though as the New Style ends have nothing to do with offset. It is the axle that determines the offset. Not sure why you have a 2.62" offset,,,, but for whatever the reason it sounds like you are about 1/8" from getting your caliper centered over your rotor?
If so can you post a few pics of your axle/brake setup so I can see? I think I have a fix for you. Or send me to a link you have already posted. |
When I put my Moser axles in I had one that needed trimming. I guess it is possible the axles are bottoming in the carrier before the seals crush down all the way. Otherwise someone just machined the axle wrong, or did a custom job on purpose. It can always be fixed by pressing the bearings off and taking an additional cut on the axle to put the bearing/axle flange in the right place. That is probably a lot more work than you were hoping though !!

Looks like if you had the ability to machine the caliper bracket spacer, that would allow your caliper to center over the caliper ORRRRRRR if you ran a two piece rotor/hat you could run washers between the rotor and hat mounting surfaces which would push your rotor inboard.... may have to get longer bolts though depending on how much you shim.

I didn't have the aluminum one piece spacer you have in your kit, so I just used hardened washers and thinner stainless washers to set my spacing. Right or wrong it's working.........so far.
