3,300 lbs?????? 69 Camaro

Yesterday I drove my 69 Camaro to work. A co-worker made me aware of a scale set in town that milk trucks pass through 24 hours a day. It is open and unmanned. You pull on the scale, come to a stop, then look across the street for a weight.

I couldn't resist. I rolled my 69 on there yesterday. Subtracting for my weight and my 2 year old in the back seat I came up with

3,300 lbs.

This car has an all aluminum LS1, Vintage a/c, VB&P fiberglass rear springs, C5 brakes, 1996 Caprice plastic gas tank (1/4 tank) and a ford 9" rear.

Does that weight sound right?

I thought it would have weighed less than that. The word is these scales are constantly calibrated.

He weighed his 2005 Vette and it came up within 40 lbs of the magazine testing which he accounts for differences in fuel.

That is the correct weight

Is that the correct weight for a stock 69?

It is my understanding the LS1 is 200 lbs lighter. I know the Vintage Air system lighter and the fiberglass rear springs drop signficant weight to stock.

I had thought the car would be closer to 3,000 on the nose.

thought i read somewhere once they were closer to 3100 stock

No, your car at 3300 is right. Most of the street racers we weigh are in the 3100 to 3300 pound range, and often those are not full interiors, no inner fenders, glass hoods, etc. load you car up with a iron big block steel springs, etc and she will go 3600 easy. I have seen nearly 3800 for loaded stockers.

Yes, but thats with Bill Howell, Bob Johnson or myself in the car. Then she's at 4100 to 4200 lbs.

I scaled my car uing corner scales (NASA event, they were correct), and the porker weighed 3398. My bud's full bore stripped 67 race car weighed a smidge over 2700. His car is very well gutted.

My car has an iron bowtie 400 with aluminum heads, TKO, and rear coil-over suspension. 3300 for your car sounds just right. They are heavier than you think, unfortunately.

By the way, I was quite embarrased when the other dudes with svelt race cars saw my cars weight.... There was more than one comment about it floating around!

That's good initiative to convert the front to an aftermarket subframe. That'll shave about 100 or so lbs. off the front end too.

My '68 was 3420 with the big block, Gear vendors unit, TH400 and Dana 60..

Only reason it was that light was because of the lack of "extras" like heat and AC..

so, your weight sounds about right..
