Exhaust estimate

Hi guys curious what people think I reasonable price for a header back exhaust is theses days.

Consider stainless as an option but not a requirement
Oval tube as another consideration .....

I received a recent rough estimate of 30 hrs plus materials @70.00 per and that seemed a bit over the top (admit ideally this was a sight unseen rough swag)

30 Hours labor? It's a 1/2 day job for any good exhaust shop.

I pay $450 for headers back with X-pipe over the axles including mufflers such as Magnapacks, Magnaflows or equal. 2 1/2"

Roy Brizio Street Rods labor rate is $105 an hour -- the custom exhaust on my '33 Ford was $800

Now -- that was body off - just bare frame etc... but it's all relative. In that it's NOT a 30 hour job.

Its not a 30 hour job, but it alot more difficult to install a custom welded exhaust than your speed 33 chassis.

Even when I buy a magnaflow kit almost everything gets cut up behind the x pipe. Trying to corkscrew pipes around suspension, tires, and fuel tank get time consuming, even when you have done a dozen of them. On average it takes me about 18-20 hours to build a custom exhaust.

yeah if you want a crimped exhaust and welds that look like the guy started yesterday. It amazes me how bad most exhaust shops weld.

Agree completely Mike -- which is why I said it was a bare chassis install.

Also depends on whether or not a guy is using band clamps and all that kind of stuff... so it COULD be a 30 hour job... but not if it's just "exhaust" at an exhaust shop.

25-35 hours on a fully tig welded SS exhaust, with 4-6 V-band flange assemblies welded on (8-12 individual flanges), SS brackets welded on, nuts welded into the frame, etc.
Or for the cheaper jobs we take it down to the muffler shop and for $500 total get an aluminized steel, wrinkled, mig welded exhaust like Musclerodz said.

So it all depends on the fit/finish, and of course materials used. If we had a mandrel bender it'd take a fraction of the time! :)

If available, Stainless Works kits take a bit of time out since they mandrel bend everything and use slip-fit joints with band clamps. Those are only about $1000+.

Taking my Camaro to a place in Orange County tomorrow using most of a 3" Magnaflow kit.

I will let you know what they charge me. Full Stainless

The shop and guy I use does excellent quality work and very good welding. He been doing my exhaust and most guys in Vegas with Muscle cars for at least 10 years that I've know him. All he does is exhaust.
