Rehooping a wheel from 17" to 18" ?

Can a 17" two piece smooth lip billet wheel be rehooped into a 18" wheel ? I would prefer to go to a stepped lip rather than a smooth lip. Looking for options to get more brake clearance and wider wheels. Have heard it can be done but haven't found anyone that does it.

Anything is possible given enough money, but I suspect you would be money ahead to sell the current wheels and buy new ones.

I've heard of it and my buddy is going to do it. Technically a 2 piece wheel is a 3 piece with the lip and barrel welded together. It's going to cost a lot because your going to have buy both a barrel and lip for each wheel.

Average 170 per barrel and lip. Plus coating or polishing and 30 assembly.

If you have a true 17 rim a step lip with take you to 18.

Having my doubts this is feasible.

Not gonna work. The center spoke part of the wheel is different from a 17 to 18. 1" different to be exact. 17" spokes only work on 17" wheels and visa versa.

Not so sure about that. Forgeline uses a 19" center for an 18" wheel if its a reverse lip or smooth lip, like the op mentioned he had. But it would depend on the original manufacturer of course.

Most 17 flat lip wheels can use a 18" step lip and 16/17 and 18/19 etc

yes . In some cases it can be done. When we inquires a couple years ago abot having it done on a certain wheel the net savings over buying new wheel was about $100

They advised then that it's cheaper just to buy new wheels and sell the old ones

I rebarrel my own wheels and pay about 150-175 per barrel so it is significantly cheaper than a new wheel but i agree most wheel companies will charge close to the price of a new wheel for the service.
