MAF placement?
 
I currently have my MAF placed between my throttle body and a 90 degree bend in my intake tube that I fabbed up out of 4" tubing. The 90 is needed to make the transition from a long straight piece that runs between the rad and the motor. The air cleaner is behind the drivers headlight....if all this makes sense. I have heard that the MAF needs to have a certain length of straight tubing before and after it to function properly. Texas Speed built my LS3 and supplied the MAF. The tech I talked to their made it sound like it didn't matter. Thoughts? I am thinking I may need to move the MAF into the straight section.

yes and no. GM requires 6-7 inches for the air to "straighten out", but there are solutions for that acording to Spectre/K&N, they make an air straightener or scrambler, i cant remember which. I have an LS and am redoing the air intake system on it and putting it near/behind the left headlight (2nd gen cam). Pics will be in my build thread soon (dis-traction).

From what I have read & seen on other builds, most are located in the middle of the long pipe running along the rad. Right in the area of the alternator, give or take. Thats where I positioned mine. The blade style MAF is sensitive. If you don't have a screen or "honeycomb" before the MAF, I would add one. You might be ok leaving it there, but if you have any tuning issues it might need to be relocated. Looks like you have a nice build going there.

Thanks. I have the honeycomb style MAF...maybe that is why Texas Speed didn't sound concerned about my placement.

Put it right before the elbow going into the tb. The straighter the airflow is the more stable the a/f wil be.

I agree with you Mike. IIRC, GM harness swap instructions say about 6 - 8" downstream of the TB.
