1965 Mustang Fastback
Ive always wanted a 1965 Mustang Fastback. I decided to get one for my daughter to help me out with. There is just something about the shark gills on the side that makes the car look oh so awesome. I found this car in San Jose, CA. Before that it came from Tennessee. Ive known Vince (Mspfab) for quite a while now and decided to let him do his thing with it. The plans for the car as follows:
Engine: Ford Crate 306 with new T5 Ford Performance tranny Suspension: Full ridetech setup front and rear with adjustable coil overs Brakes: Wildwood 13" 6 piston Wheels: Forgeline 18x11 rear and 18x8 front Interior: TMI upholstery. Black with suede inserts Not trying to make this one a show car like the camaro. This car will mostly be something that I can mash on. Here she is the day I got her home http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...psnqsqkyjd.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...pso67gzde4.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...psmfkzzpxh.jpg |
completely gutted this thing. May the rot repair begin!

Up on the frame table she goes! http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...psid3znumx.jpg Vince also made me some cool framerails to go along with the DSE tubs http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...pswqwe0ana.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...psrolholen.jpg |

Looks like you're off to a great start! I'm in the next town over in Dublin with a 66 fastback that's under construction. Maybe a cars and coffee meet is in order when they are done.
Any more pics of the mini-tub? |
Yea, looking good John. Love these Mustang fast backs, one of my favorite body styles of all time. Apparently there's one on here for sale, and its a nice one too ( too bad the owners not lol)....and its too bad i just dropped 60k on a used foreign car haha....
When did you move over from CV? Cheers, mike |

That looks like a killer starting point! To be the guy with the crappy comment, I'd think twice about that T5 if you intend to beat on this car. The 306 you mentioned will eat it alive, as the real torque limit of a T5 is closer to 300 lbs, rather than 350 (within reasonable driving limits). (I just sold the same combo earlier this year--the motor was great.) I'd spend a couple extra bucks on a TKO, which might require more sheetmetal work, but will not require removal after a couple track days . . .
Progress looks great! |
doh! i already have the tranny sitting here.

My 66 Mustang has got 20,000 miles on a T5z behind a Roush 342 stroker - 480hp/450 torque and I've had no problems to date. I think you'll likely be ok with the T5. I've done track days and drag racing with my car and agree the TKO is far stronger, but so far with gentle shifting on the T5z I've been ok.
