Edelbrock Pro Flo

I have a 69 SS Camaro with a 350/700R4 and want to convert it to EFI. I have a Pro Flo and now see there is an upgrade at additional $2000, my question is should I invest in the up to sequential EFI or just go with MSD Atomic, Holly, etc., TBIs?

Does anybody know if the Pro Flos are any good before the upgrade?

I wouldn't even think about spending 2K on that system. Wasn't a top system in the first place. I'd consider a multiport before a throttle body as well. Throttle bodies are just electronic carbs to some degree. AEM, Holley, and FAST would be good alternatives for a multiport.
For TBI I'd do a Holley. MSD and a few others are sealed units, can't be repaired unless you send them back to the manufacturers.
Hope this helps.

Holly

A mechanic friend of mine said the same thing about the Holly. My local speed shop recommends the MSD but I think that's because he sells them.

I ran an Edelbrock ProFlo EFI on a 350 back in the day. It was a multiport system and I also used the Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads and camshaft with it.

Worked awesome right out of the box and required very little setup and no actual tuning as they supplied the chip for my engine profile. I put over 10k miles on it and never once had a problem. Got good mileage, had good drivability and power. However, I think running Edelbrock heads and cam meant the supplied tune was probably a lot better than a totally custom solution.

I wouldn't spend the $2k to upgrade it but if you already own the system why would you change it without running it first? I say try and see how you like it and then make a decision about spending more money or not.

I had the Pro Flo system on a 427 big block and it ran great with RPM heads and cam. As long is the chip calibration is correct for the camshaft, it's not a bad system. My experience has been as long as you don't exceed [email protected] duration on the cam, the original Pro Flo setup works quite well. The Pro Flo 2 upgrade eliminates the need for the chip but still requires calibration files and I don't think it gives you any more headroom on the camshaft. You really need 10-12" vacuum to make the Pro Flo work. Given the cost of the upgrade, I agree it's a tough call whether to upgrade or just buy or more flexible EFI system.

FYI, last time I checked, Edelbrock was still making the chips for the original Pro Flo system. If you have any thoughts of running the old system, you may want to get the chip which most closely matches your camshaft choice.
