70 Chevelle Wheels and Tires- Stressful
I sound spoiled saying this but ordering custom wheels and tires is stressful.
I have ordered my Weld RT-S Wheels and I did this based on a combination of recommendation from Weld and research. I have ordered Front: 18x8 4.7BS and 275/40R18 Note: I now want to change this to 18x9 5.2BS and 275/40R18 Rear 18x10 6.2BS and 305/35R18 I am concerned that the wheels wont fit. I have ordered a Percys Wheelrite, however, I believe Weld is backed up right now due to a problem with their ovens on the RT-S line; So I suppose I have a window. The issue is the Percy's tool makes you bend a wire over the tires you want to use... Well I don't have the fronts yet to so something like that and mimic section width. Do you guys think I should proceed and relax or what? Should I change the wheel size to a 18x9 in the fronts or get a smaller tire and run the 8s? Talk some sense back into me. :underchair: |
Lol! You're not the only one that wrestles with stuff like this. I struggled with the same thing after ordering 8", I had this nagging feeling I should've gone with 9's. I kept mulling it over and after 4 weeks I called and changed it to 9's.
When you're spending this much money, get what you want because do-overs are painful. |
Travis, I agree with Zoomin - It's personal (as is colour choice) and with the kind of cash being spent, what's a few extra bucks for what you want. Check out my thread, last few pages - a ground shot that captures what 18x8 and 18x10 (5.75 bs) looks like with a 295 tire. In my case was happy to get them used with the specs that they are. Would I go 18x9 front if I were to order - sure! I find it still looks great though. If these are around in the next 4-5 years when comes my car's time to blast and paint I will pick these up http://www.autoanything.com/wheels-r...t-s-s77-wheels Hope that sheds some light.:peepwall:

I had 18x8 in front and I hated the way it looked. I didnt have the luxury of being able to change it up without ordering new wheels - so I ordered new wheels and went up to 18x9.5 Im a wider is better type of guy tho.

Thanks for the advice. Weld recommended that I just stuck with the 18x8 and 18x10 as this is the recommended size for the Chevelle. They state if they dont work out, i could return/exchange them. However, he said If I went with a wider wheel up front and it didnt work out- it would be my loss.
I went the safe route. |
Interesting. Im running 9.5s with zero clearance issues.
You could always get the wheel fitment tool and figure out what you need that way. |
We did a 70 with the following
18 x 10 with 5.5 bs running a 315 up front (trimming of the outer wheel lip is required 18 x 11 with 6.5 bs and a 315 in the rear. |
My wheels are larger and taller than anyone has mentioned on here and I don't have any issue with clearance, etc. I'm running a 20x9 up front and it turns normal without any rubbing whatsoever. I think you would have been safe with the 9" wheel.
