70 Triumph GT6 transformation
Starting another british car swap, well doing 2 swaps currently, one being a typhoon and this one, a 70 Triumph GT6. Back story on the car is I got the car from a guy offloading it for dirt cheap. Someone had already done a ton of the hard work for me. Full custom frame, braced and reinforced, All steel body with a ton of the body work done, and done fairly well. SBC engine (iron block and iron heads) with a TH400 trans behind it, and rounding out the back was a ford 9 inch with a mini spool in it. Total weight for the car as it sat with all of that in it was 2022lbs. Suspension is a custom 4 link in the back that I'm going to fix due to some sloppy work and bags all the way around that I'm going to swap for adjustable coilovers. I want to get a few opinions on what I'm thinking as a way ahead on the car. I originally was going to put a viper motor in the car and after a lot of measurements, I could make it fit. They are extremely heavy and expensive though and really, it would just be for the cool factor, since there are many other options that would work a lot better with the parts I have lying around.
new thoughts are something along the lines of... Engine: -Iron Block / Aluminum head LS series engine built to handle lots of boost -T67 twin turbos for now... Haven't decided just yet though. -4L80E trans to handle the power and give me the overdrive... un-decided on stall speed for the moment -Already have a Ford 9 inch in the rear and disc brakes all around, the mini spool in the rear is going away and probably something in the 3:55 range will go back in. -Already have the Fuel system and the engine computers (Fuel lab, FAST XFI/XIM) -Suspension will be adjustable Coil overs all around. Here's where I break from the norm and am really un-decided though. -Thinking of putting 67 mustang Eleanor style rear taillights in the car... I think the rearend of the car lends itself well to that style and that car is my favorite car of all time so I'm a little biased... Open to thoughts or other ideas. -Car is going to get side pipes but going to recess them like the Jaguar V12 powered GT6 that's been built over on Britishv8.org... I don't have the space to run them under the frame so coming off the turbos, that seems like an easy choice. -I'm going to put the side windows back in the car to fix the looks and massive blind spot that it has right now. I haven't decided if -I'm going to put the little vents behind the windows or not... Thoughts? -I'm going to French in the license plate in the rear below the Eleanor tail lights. Thoughts? Car weighed 2,022lbs with the TH400, Iron block/heads SBC, and ford 9 inch in the car. I'm going to try and keep the full weight of the car below 2600 lbs. -I'm looking for a very small vintage air type setup that I can cram in the dash area to give me AC and Heat. any ideas on where to find one? -The interior right now will be bucket seats and I'll go through and re-do everything so it looks nice and more up to speed with the theme of the build. -paint scheme, well, yeah, very close to the Eleanor type paint scheme. Basically gunmetal grey with a black stripe from the hood scoop back and a red pinstripe around that black stripe. Eleanor type wheels probably because I have ford bolt pattern on the car right now. Thoughts? http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pssb9dl3lc.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psykfrkgs0.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstep04kei.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5g9bhjty.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstj5lo4zd.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pssr0qnhum.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps63kaixcd.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyadvvxyt.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psy1xxqvos.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psn9pikr8r.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps1bdwupzr.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psqllrjwul.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstpbcu0gn.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psamzwbdc8.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psk2ix3d1n.jpg |

Never seen that body style before. Very cool shape to it. Poor Triumph guys are gonna lose their minds!!

previous owner did a whole lot of custom modifications to it... Some I like, some I'm going to alter a bit to look a little nicer. The biggest one being I'm going to re-cut out the hole for the side window (last picture posted) and put the windows back in. Right now it's just a massive blond spot when you look over your shoulder right there. No bueno.

I've wanted to find a triumph gt6, kinda fell by the way side after kids. Good luck, love this project.

Yeah, the reason I got this one was because I love the Sprite I have with a v8 in it, but I want a car I can drive in the rain and on power tour that is honestly more insane than the 450 HP sprite. A ton of progress will get made when I get off this deployment. For now, just making plans and buying parts.

I love this. My brother had one - stock of course in the late 60's. Would love to own one of your 'monsters'!
