Twin turbo 6.0 induction...Filters or ram air?
Just wanting opinions.... installing twin 62 MM turbos on my 6.0 LQ4 in the 78 Z28. Should I do filters on turbo inlets, or duct ram air into the turn signal openings ( ALA- Hellcat)? Turbo filters would be under hood. such as typical CAI.. I know the benefits of isolated cold air, but I can max out at 3.0 inch corrugated ducts due to fitment issues, and I don't want to restrict airflow. This is a street car that will see some track time, but mostly street.
thanks for any advice or thoughts. KT. |
Since you are in TN.... my buddy at Coffey Fabrication & Race Prep is working on my Chevelle in Nashville. If you want any fab work done he does killer work. https://www.facebook.com/CoffeyFabrication/timeline

If you plan on driving it a good bit, I'd say do filters. Do something like mine did so it can get cool air but sill have the filter.

Man, I love the radiator support! Nice fab work! Thanks for the response. I think what we're going to do is to have filters on the inlet ducting just in font of the radiator support and have ram-air through the turn signal lights in the bumper, but not duct from the lights to the turbo inlets themselves. This way we can draw air from the filter as well as get the extra airflow at speed and not compromise CFM when the RPM goes up. There's about 8 inches between the inlets/lights and the core support, so lots of ambient air to be had in that giant space.
How far along is your car? I'd love to see it up close sometime. Everything looks so crisp and cleanly laid out. Nice work! KT |
Sorry just seeing this again. Wish I could have seen your car at SEMA.
Car is slowly coming along. Runs and drives. Few minor wiring gremlins and sorting out the small stuff that I'm finding along the way. Missing/lost parts. Etc. |
