removing paint from hood
 

So I purchased a used gm cowl hood for my 68 camaro and I want to strip the paint as much as I can before having the nooks and cranies blasted. should i use a chemical paint stripper to get a good chunk off or should I use a 3m wheel on my power drill? or should i use something else? let me know

You have several options here Paul.

1-DA it with 80 grit
2-Chemically strip
3-Have it media blasted

I have had pretty good results just with the DA.

Perfect thank you, I looked for the magical stamping today after applying some chemical stipper to the rear corner. NOTHING. still happy it is a gm hood and at 300 bucks I could not be happier to have it for my project!!!

Make sure you properly neutralize that stripper or you will have paint issues down the road. I recommend a DA to remove paint on a hood.

Been doing a a fair amount of thus for the last few weekends. I have used aircraft stripper and a citrus stripper ... the aircraft is faster but very nasty... the citrus you can get at Home Depot.. have to let it sit 13 hrs or do but it's the way to go.

Then use a DA with 80 or 36

Any chance u can explain this magical stamping and or post pics of where I'm supposed to look for this stamping it's the first time I've heard of this stamping. Thanks I appreciate the help. I'm restoring my car and any new/old info would help to learn.

I kinda joke about it being a "magical stamp". After some research I found that cowl hoods that were on cars from the assembly plant had a date code stamped in the rear driver side corner. It would be a number 1-52. Hoods made by GM for the after market did not get these stamps. Here is a picture of the area of where it should be
