67 Camaro speedtech Extreme issue

Looking for a little help from all the pro touring gurus. I have 67 Camaro with speedtech extreme new subframe. It is installed with there subframe bushings. Having a little issue with the steering connection. Column is a stock ididit column. As can be seen in the pics the ujoint is into on top of the frame. Lifting the column helps the u joint however it will not make the angle to the rack.

It looks like your steering column sticks out to far past the firewall? Have you tried loosening the column under the dash and sliding it closer towards the driver position?

Mine clears fine but my column is further into the firewall.

The column is in the dash bracket pulled as far inward towards driver as possible. Everything bolted up with a stock subframe.

I personally think your steering column is still to long. If you look at Roger's column from speedtech below you can see it sticks out far less then yours. Maybe they sent you a 34"column instead of 32" (assuming a length I'm not sure) ? If the column was further in the angle would change and your steering shaft would work. I'd measure your column.

What year car and what steering column? I just measured my stock column and the ididit. They are the same measurements. This column fits perfect in a stock subframe car Does this subframe require modifying the column or a custom one?

The car pictured above is a 69 camaro . I'm unsure of the column/ length they used. I know on my 68 I modified a later model GM column to the factory length (32"?) and ran into the same issue your having. All I did was take apart my column again and shortened it about another 2" so it would work.

What length is your factory column? I'm assuming about 32"?? Maybe you'll need a 30" length? Once it's closer to the firewall the angle of the steering joint should clear no problem.

I'm sure someone from speedtech will jump in eventually to help you out.

I understand what you are saying. If I have to shorten the column it will obviously work however it would have been nice to know when ordering the sub. You know what I mean. Ididit will build a custom length column. It would be a shame to take a new column and have to shorten it. But thanks for the help.

it looks like it says on their site

Factory steering columns may not be the right length for the correct steering shaft angle and may not work with the ExtReme suspension components. We recommend an Ididit steering column for best results. Please speak to your sales rep to order a column from us or to obtain the correct part number.
