Wilwood Master Brake Cylinder will not stop leaking

I have a manual Wilwood Master brake cylinder and the front port and line leaks and I can not get it to stop. Wilwood said to wrap the adapter with tape three wraps and that has not worked and I have had 4 brakes lines going into it. Very hard to tell where its leaking, I am suspecting the line is not seating properly or the adapter is defective. Wilwood said they never had this happen, yea right. I am calling Wilwood again tomorrow for another adapter but... and ideas? Thanks

That's good market awareness! On that note, from what I've experienced, it's always frowned upon to put thread tape on brake fittings . . .

On another note, I've seen brake system leaks go away with usage (heat & expansion), which can be hard to apply with a minimally used fun-car . . .

Good on Wilwood (I have their stuff, too!) for stepping up and trying to put the fire out!

Bad master seat or line flare, what else could it be?

The Teflon tape for the adapter going into the MC is Wilwoods recommendation, it is not on the brake line. I tried 4 brake lines (store bought not made) and it still leaked. Something was just a little off (milled)

never use thread tape on aluminum it acts like lube and you will split the bore

Thanks but as mentioned it was Wilwood recommendation. Got a new MC and it looks like I have it fixed

I'm shocked Wilwood (or some idiot that works there) would suggest using tape - or anything else for that matter - in a brake system....

#1 cause of leaks --- OVER TIGHTENING the fittings.... and if they leak - tightening them some more. LOL

Not saying you did this - but other people read these posts - so have to spell it out. The interface of the soft brass conical areas and using double flares or single AN spec flares and stainless steel lines and then CRUSHING them... is where I've always seen the issues. You look down inside and see the brass deformed.... a leaker for sure. No amount of tightening the fitting will fix it.

I always sneak up on these --- snug it - back off - snug a bit more - back off - snug it up tight - without being a gorilla.... The snug/back off - give the two mating surfaces a chance to seat.

Hi Greg. Wilwood masters have NPT threads and they supply NPT threaded adapters to convert to flare fittings. At least that is my recollection. I am guessing they were suggesting teflon tape for the NPT connections.

I know them very well..... they use a crush washer for that fitting - the one that goes directly in to the MC.
