My Barn Shop

We built this back barn in 2003, it's a 24X40.
The original intent was to raise Holstein calves, store hay, and a tractor. As my daughters got older we raised horses, they grew up, moved away, we went back to calves.

Over the years I have enclosed the front, divided off half for working on cars, added a 16x40 overhang to protect my daughter Kasey's Fairline, and a kennel for our GSD.

A few weeks ago my wife and I cleared out the unfinished side an had a 12x20 slab put in. We then built a 8x20 room for a small machine shop, and the rest will be for calves.

Here are a few "old" pictures I dug up.

Just to the right of that blue tarp is the calf area. Kasey's 63 Fairline under the tarp.

Very nice! Seems like a lots of new shops (or shop additions) going on lately. I have something in the works for me as well, just not ready to show any progress on it yet.

Do you have a way to heat the finished areas of the shop?

Thanks, yes I heat it with a 220 heater, just about right for the size.

Looking forward to sewing your shop too.

Nice Joe!

Do you have any protection plans for Mice with the Hay for the Calves in the next room?

Thanks!
We used to keep allot of mouse traps and the sticky type traps in the old side. I have to be careful with anything else because my Jack Russells, rabbits, and neighbors cats get in that side. The Jack's and the cat's kill mice.

We are on 4 acres out in the sticks, and the barn sets near the property line next to 55 acres of open space, and my neighbors 2 .5 acres of pasture. Fortunately nothing can get inside and poo on my car, but I have to keep the stuff covered up under the overhang.

My wife worked me like an Egyptian slave this weekend finishing off the ceiling on the calf side (her side). It looks better than it ever has, no place for the birds to roost now!

I need to get my are in gear and clean things up, post more pictures, and get to work on my 427 Torino...

I like your shop a lot. You're making momma happy, and when she's happy- everyone's happy! Those calves are super cool.

Thanks Dave, yep my farm girl is a keeper.

Henry and Edsel are pretty cute, but when they get about a year old they will be a pain in a butt and I will be repairing the fences.

The shop is just about right for a one man operation. I wish my daughter Kasey was still around to help. We are going up to Laramie tomorrow to see her.

Joe
