69 Camaro from West Oz - LSA - TR6060 etc

Hey guys,

New to this forum, and wish I'd joined a lot earlier during the 'evolution' build - would've saved many headaches.

Rolling out of Perth, Western Australia, I'm upgrading my previous BBC/T400 combo to an LSA / TR6060 drivetrain, not without it's complications.

Current status - LSA fitting nicely now, setback an 1" to clear rack n pinion, TR6060 mounted (need to finish trans tunnel plate mod) - Using GM LSA Controller kit for LSA - Vapoworx CTS-V kit for the fuel .. etc, will add in appropriate forums when the time comes

great car, how do you go with RWC certs and modplating with the LSA? any trouble?

Yes, a lot of licensing issues here in the West for an LSA - despite the suspension & big brake upgrades (there's been a crackdown on anything performance related of late) yet there's no issue on the eastern seaboard

That blows, I started building my car with the intention of bringing it home(QLD) but now I don't think it will ever happen. I've seen a lot of yours on instagram, such a great car.

Thanks mate, she's an absolute labour of love - the latest evolution is so the family can get more involved with cruising and racing

I believe QLD is a little more lenient and reasonable than WA, for some reason the nanny-state has clamped right down on us

Elaborate for me, wouldja? What's rwc and modplating?

Is Perth really strict on modifying cars? My brother spent a lot of time in Perth. He speaks of it often.

I don't intend to highjack this thread, but in general, Australias road rules are on a whole different level to that of the states, and a Road worthy certificate (RWC) is the safety check required to get the car on the road and/or required after you receive certain citations for "illegal modifications", And in Australia, car modifications are much higher regulated so mods that are standard here are considered Illegal over there, it's not entirely a bad thing, but they have certainly taken it a little too far. For some modifications you can get them, lets say "legalised" by getting them mod plated by an automotive engineer, which allows you to not receive said citations for race seats, or large brakes etc.

To see a car like this 69 getting around makes me very happy to say the least.

Hey CJ,

As Slimjim mentioned, anything outside of standard factory fitment technically must be recorded to the licensing centres, and if outside of their limitations would require and engineering report and/or a modification plate for licensing approval.
Currently my LSA will not pass the new licensing rulings, despite other states allowing it, even with having superior suspensions & brakes doesn't factor in as they've just blanket banned blown LS engines, which means I'll be hanging out for track days (and possibly driving around like a vigilante :secret: )
There is a movement in place to help us out though, and hopefully they gain some traction, as it's ok to license a 6/71 BBC on Big n Littles that will handle like a boat - but not a finely tuned pro-touring muscle car
