Add-on tire lettering, what do you think?
I've seen this on quite a few exotics and a few cars that they don't belong on.
Odd question I guess because many muscle cars had those raised white letter tires, years ago. I guess modern cars are trying to capitalize on the retro trend. I was looking at the lettering kits, but I think on my car there is enough going on, that plain blackwalls are better. What do you guys think? If you bought the new Pirelli's would you order them with the manufacturers coloured lettering kit? Would you add glue on lettering to your black wall tires? |
To each their own but I think it doesn't look good. It'll look like your trying to hard to be "current"with a trend.

Yep agreed with above ...not my deal and looks kinda goody ...custom big rigs seemed to be on this first

I think it looks out of place on some cars but decent on others. The letters that are actually painted on aren't awful but the ones that are thick stickers aren't my cup of tea.

On some cars it looks good, but in most cases the Lettering Size doesn't fit the lower profile tire correctly which in my mind screws up the visual!

In my opinion only with old school rims does white lettering work

I know a few of the Cobra kit car guys are looking to get the billboard tire look.
So I get that. Many of the pro-touring cars hearken back from the regular white tire lettering era, so I wondered what the consensus was. I kind of like the lean mean, sleeper or understated look Maybe on a track car it looks good |
We have a local kid driving around here in a new Ford Focus ST who has added a rear wing and has put on the stick on tire lettering with a nice set of wheels. I have to say it does look good. But having said that I don't think they would work on my car.

As with most things, it CAN look good, but it won't always work. Nice thing is, it seems to be temporary so if it looks stupid you haven't lost much. I remember Tyler's 50/50 Camaro had the takeoff slicks mocked up with white lettering and it looked good. Was way before the trend. Just depends on the profile of the tire and overall look/purpose of the car. Same goes for tow hooks, flares, and maybe even gold centered wheels.

To me, on a car that sees track use it looks great! On anything else it seems like an imitation or poser.
