LSA in a Chevelle, looking for ideas on intercooler tank
I am dropping a LSA into a 71 Chevelle, and I am trying to figure out a way to incorporate an intercooler tank under the hood. The LSA normally doesn't use one, but I would like the extra capacity and ability to add ice if/when the car goes to the drag strip.
As of now, the battery is still in the factory location. It probably won't move to the trunk, since there is a pretty elaborate stereo setup in there. I was thinking about fabbing a tray behind the driver side headlight and running a Canton tank made for a battery tray. This idea, however, takes up most of the room that the air intake tube is going to go. Has anyone done this swap that would be willing to share pictures? If it just plain doesn't work out, I can run it the way they do in the gen 5 ZL1 without the tank, but I would really like one if possible. |
Mine in my Camaro is on the right side behind the head light where the battery was. You will need a place to fill it as your highest point. if you are using the factory size hoses yo could use the factory fill. I had a tank made to fit, and used an aluminum sheet for it to sit on.

Why not make a tank that mounts in the empty space behind the passenger side wheel well and the firewall? Presumably the firewall is smooth and all you have are some hoses going through the firewall in that area.
The less weight hanging forward of the front track the better. Andrew |

in this article you can see i used a 1 gal fuel cell that i cut and added fittings to as a reservoir for our lsa. |
We've done a couple cars with tanks we fabbed up in this location. Understood you haven't moved your battery, but thought I'd share!
