Your opinion : Oldsmobile 442 for sale
5 Attachment(s)
guys,
to shorten the time until my nova is done i am thinking to buy this car : oldsmobile 442, good condition outside plus new interior, engine bay stock and not so nice, trunk area repainted with some thick black paint, not done very nicely, you see on the trunk lock that it was not even removed before painting. technical wise the car is said to be in very good condition, no rust. 18" front 20" rear boyd wheels. what do you think, how much would this car rate in the states realistic price ? just to have a comparison. i will be in the states and thinking to take either a car with me to europe or purchase this one. thanks for your help. |
Price wise I can't really comment, but I can tell you that the thick black paint in the trunk scares me. Makes me worry about what is under it. Rust? Otherwise, it looks to be a nice ride. Nothing too rare here in the states, so I wouldn't go crazy on the price.

thanks for the comment.
yeah, there are plenty on ebay. he was asking 18,000 dollar that is too high. i was offering 14,000, which is the border. the dollar / euro ratio makes this price look higher than it is feels for me. on the other hand (for reference) a 10,000 dollar US car that i import will be 14,500 dollar with shipping, tax, customs and handling until i have it in front of my door. |
take an experienced body man with you to check out the rust areas, qtrs and inner rear fenders, rear window valence, floorpans, and the back of the front fenders where they meet with the door. I saw a nice one on ebay that sold for $17K. From the pics they sent it looked worth it for me. If it is really rust free and a true '68 442 (which I doubt since a few things just don't look right from the pics) I would get it. Spotter tips for a genuine '68 442: Engine color is bronze, must have the cutouts in the rear bumper, the letter C cast in cyl heads, a red air cleaner with 1 snorkel, 400ci, and dual pinstripes on the bottom of the dash. Don't know if I'd ship it to Germany though. Hell for nothing else, we need more Olds on here. Good luck.
