I wanted a 69 camaro...but what about this idea

See the link above. This is a 66 Lincoln Continental. My step brother has one that I could buy from him. I was thinking to upgrade the suspension and put some nice wheels, not ghetto looking. Then put a big block in the car or even an 03 cobra motor and tranny and a 9 inch rear end, although I don't know who could do that or how much that would be. It would be something different and I love the suicide doors. Weaver |
i love those cars... so much fun to cruise.

I have always liked those cars. Assuming it would fit, I would go with a '03-'04 Lightning 5.4L rather than the '03-'04 Cobra 4.6L. Those Lincolns aren't anywhere close to being light (Link) and the added torque would be welcomed.

Those are real cool and they also made 2 door coupes in the same bodystyle that would be a little sportier to bridge the gap between the Camaro and this.
David's right, a cobra motor doesn't have enough cubes to move that beast. I'd go for a Ford 514 crate motor if I was trying to motivate 5000 pounds of Lincoln. |
Now comes the million dollar question. How much would this cost to build a car with a modern engine, lets say an 03-04 lightening motor, tranny, brakes, rear end and a modern suspension. Am I leaving anything else out? $30K, $40K, etc. I have no idea. I am just looking for a ballpark figure.

I'd say around $25,000 for a decent build.
That guy on ebay is nuts for expecting $40k from that car... you can find very nice clean rust free continentals for $4-10k. :) |

I should be talking to my dad tonight. I will find out if he will part with it, hopefully as a donation.
I am thinking of a pewter color with red pinstripe. Tan cloth interior with a white top. Some 20 inch wheels with whitewall tires, if they make they that big, and an airride suspension and some Baer brakes. Weaver Quote:

Forget the Cobra or lightning motor idea. They are just as big and heavy as a Big Block and just as expensive as an equally powered big block. They do however when in the wow category.

I always loved those cars..
