9” Ford or 10 Bolt?
 

Hey Guys, I’m currently running a 10 bolt in my 69 Camaro with a EfI 350/700R4 and I want to run 3.42 ratio. I have a chance to get a 9” Ford that measures 58” from flange to flange which I think is the same width as my 10 bolt. My question would it be advisable to buy the 9” and spend the extra $ to buy the 3.42 3rd members or invest in building my stock 10 bolt.

We all know the 9” is a much stronger rear end but I’ll never more then 400+hp out of this car

8.5" 10 bolt? If so then don't swap. The 8.5" 10 bolt is plenty strong enough, there's plenty of upgrades and ratios, and it's lighter than the 9". I'm running a well built 8.5" 10 bolt for all the reasons I just listed. I should be 4-450 rwhp and tq.

If it's not the same rear as what I have in my car, then I'm not sure or familiar enough with it to comment. Good luck.

Double check your flange to flange measurements if it is a stock axle, it is probably 60".

Yes mine is an 8.5, what upgrades did you do to yours?

Your Stock should be 60.50"

stock 67-70 camaro's were 8.2" rears!!! the 8.5 didnt arrive until 72 in the Novas and fit the 67-69 camaro's look at the rear cover - this will tell you alot if you have stock 8.2 look for a 72-78 Nova, Apollo, Ventua, omega equivalent and make sure its has the big ears at 8 and 4 as in middle picture.
The pinion in a 8.5" is larger and uses same pinion bearings as the 12 bolts do
and is the reason they stopped making the 12 bolt car rear ends the 8.5 was the new HD rear end although with only 28 spline axles

As Zman mentioned above, double check it's not an 8.2.

I did welded axle tubes, big ford housing ends so I can use tapered axle bearings, 31 spline tru trac differential, Moser axles, and Moser Bearing cover. The cover is similar to what TC/BMR posted.

C5 components
 

Guys, I've seen those kits that allow you to run C5 hubs and brake brakets with a straight axle rear end, but don't recall where. I'm needing those adapters for the C5 hubs and the brake calipers that will allow me to run those components on the end of my 9". Thanks!
