1969 firebird pedal assembly
 

Hey guys,

I am on the hunt for a 4 speed manual pedal assembly for my 1969 Firebird....based on my research, the 69 Camaro and the 69 Firebird used a different assembly. Firebird was a bolt style. Not sure if the Camaro assembly would fit.

Phil, I responded to your thread on Pro-Touring, check there when you have a free moment or just reach out to Ron Johnson at Potomac Pontiac, he will or should have the correct pedals for you. Yes, they are a one year only and Pontiac Firebird specific.

Thanks for the lead...now that I know for sure they are a one year specific, my next question is, does the camaro assembly fit or no? I am building a PT so no need to have a OE part if I don’t have to.

I ran into the same problem with my '69. I bought two sets of pedals from someone who had a '69 Camaro, but the bracket is different than the Firebird version. I was three days from the maiden voyage of my car and found out the brake pedal is bent in two places around the steering column for the Firebird and not the Chevy. What I did was to put the chevy clutch pedal in the Pontiac bracket with the automatic Pontiac brake pedal and trimmed the metal foot pad to fit the rubber pad of the manual pedal. The brake pedal hung lower than the clutch, so I straightened the clutch pedal in the places it is already bent in to lengthen it to match the brake pedal. Works great and nobody is the wiser.(until you broadcast it on the internet). Let me know if you need some pics.

Im afraid I may be same boat I put whole pedal assy in from ?camaro? went right in but no column in car yet. can you post some pics please?

Here are some pics of my pedals. First pic shows how the brake pedal wraps around the column. This is the stock shape. I just trimmed the pedal portion to fit the manual pad vs. the larger automatic pad. The clutch pedal is the one I actually straightened to get the lengths to match and space between. Notice how I took the two bends mostly out of the clutch pedal as compared to the last pic. The Firebird top bracket is straight, not offset as the brackets in the bottom pic shown. The bottom pic is the one purchased from a friend who had it installed in his Camaro. I believe both brackets are actually A-body brackets and the front holes were notched to make it work in the Camaro. Anyone with an A-body looking for pedals? As far as clutch cylinder it is a late model F body clutch master that I machined an extension to the rod so I could bolt on a female rod end that bolts to the pedal arm. Sorry for the sideways pics, but now you can read my post while you are in bed.:D

yeah I cant see why Camaro-Firebird year for year would be any different
I know little different body wise - engine wise but its not like steering column is mounted somewhere else in the car
