Big Red on the salt
 

I’m not taking a ton of pictures but thought I’d share this one and give a bit of an update. They broke the Hot Rod Specials record today and set the bar at 257.xxxmph for the class. After losing a motor at the magnum mile and again at Pikes Peak they’ve got a new plan...smaller motors! The motor today measured at 565ci and they figure they’re down in power from the 590+ci, they’re guessing right at 1750hp. He’s loving the usable horsepower and excited for the week ahead, one record already broke and hoping for north of 270mph by weeks end.

If you ever get a chance to see the car, go over and introduce yourself, the entire crew are all really great and love to talk about any form of racing.

I can't even imagine the "budget" for this car annually.... Just moving it from place to place has to be OMG - let alone the motors and crew and on and on. Just wow.

They change everything for every event...gearing, motor, aero. They had said they swap to smaller brakes because the big ones just aren’t needed out on the salt. The car looks better than ever after the rebuild from the fire, it also allowed them to update and change some things from the older outdated build.

They broke the record Sunday and as of yesterday they were changing the gears, tweaking the motor and going to go out and go for broke. The goal is 270mph...which is kind of fast for a fairly stock bodied 69 Camaro.

The money part, they’ve got it and aren’t afraid to blow it to run the car.

Not Big Red related but interesting and shows the diversity of vehicles running. These were taken in the tech line and after scratching my head to try and figure out what the motor was I had to talk with the owner.

It has Roush tags on the valve cover and the owner mentioned it makes north of 450hp at 9500rpm, anyone know what it is and where it came from? I do and would have never guessed it.
