Steering angle calc
 

I need to determine if my project has enough steering angle and I've made my head hurt trying to figure out the calculation for travel based on steering arm length from hub center? Anyone got that handy?

I do not but welcome aboard Shane! Make a thread showing off that project. I'm sure many here would get a kick out of it as it's not the norm.

If i come across anything for this calc i'll definitely let you know.

Lots of throttle angle will give you the steering angle u need.......and its infinitely adjustable..... :wink:wink:

I guess I could make a slider plate and measure that way. Not trying to get really granular, just know that I'm in the ballpark. These damn mustang fender wells are TIGHT! I've so far got a 265/35R18 fitted on the front and with reasonable bump travel it just barely touches at 1-2 oclock on the fender lip. Which aren't rolled yet.

Here is the adjustable "fixture" I made to check tire/wheel clearance. I was shooting for 30 degrees with full compression and 335/18 tires/12 inch wide wheel - I managed to get 28 degrees. You need to check the clearances through the full range of compression/droop as lots of things change, especially if you are running a bunch of caster. Depending on the back spacing of the wheel, inner barrel clearance can become an issue. With this fixture I was able to vary the theoretical wheel width and offset to find the best fit. Good luck.

I absolutely could and have done that work in the past (in a vehicle dynamics and engineering class i took in college). Just know the time it would take me to dig it up and freshen up on the math, wouldn't be worth the return when there are others that know it off hand. Maybe if i get bored i can help :hello:

28 to 30 degrees is a good goal. If you start getting below 28 on a Camaro, you will notice it.
