Ford 9" Question - 31 spline Full Floater or 35 spline Semi Floater??
Putting a coilover suspension into my 1968 Mustang from street or track and they offer the kit with an axle housing included.
I Have a brand new aluminum strange 3rd member with a 3.50 gear and S-track differential that is 35 spline. I ordered it for my race car but screwed up and needed 33 spline for that one so I got stuck with it. I can either order the axle housing as a full floater or a semi floater. If I do the semi floater I can use the 3rd member I already have and save some $$$. If I order the Full Floater it is 31 spline only. Car is going to be a garage queen with some nice day street miles and a couple fun days at the track a year (have a race car for the competitive stuff) I'm sure I'm splitting hairs here, but just wanted to get everyone's opinion. Thanks! |
Strange can cut those axles to run 35 spline on the interior side and what ever you want on the exterior.
Since you already have a center section, a really good one, I would pony up for the axles. |
Ford 9" Question - 31 spline Full Floater or 35 spline Semi Floater??
I assume the full floater they offer is a Speedway, Coleman or Moser which can’t fit 35 spline axles inside, hence your dilemma...?
Strange and Currie have full floater systems that accept 35 spline axles. Their kits are a little more expensive than the first 3 I said, but I always recommend going with a full floater over a semi for any type of hard cornering. If it never saw a track I would say just do the semi float. -Dale |
OOOOhhhhhhh! The id of the snout is too small to take the 35 spline....?

I have Strange 35 spline with full floaters. cannot fault it. awesome

I just got done with a Strange Pro-Tourning floater modification on my 9". It is a really slick kit! I was able to reuse some of my Wilwood brakes but did have to buy a new ebrake assembly and hats. The rest bolted right in. With that kit you can have axles in 28, 31 or 35 spline center sections.

How or Why did you choose to go with the Strange Eng Floater versus Speedway Eng Mod Lite Floater ? |
I had already spent a lot of time and money on custom brackets and getting the geometry right on my old axle. It would have been much more expensive to start over again. This also allowed me to run the 14” brakes I already had instead of buying a complete new kit. I only needed to buy new e-brake components and hats. The rest worked perfectly.
