AAW + RS Headlights + LED 7" Round

I know everyone loves wiring......

I have a 1967 RS with all American Auto Wire classic update kit. It includes the RS harness which mimics the original 3 relay door system.

The doors open but will not close. When i put a resistor inline I can get one door to close but not both. I think the issue is the filament path to ground with the LED is different than an H4 style.

From their instructions:
The Control Circuit is energized when the headlamp switch is "OFF" and the ignition switch is "ON". Relay R1 is
not energized. Relays R2 and R3 are energized through the ignition switch through the one-way diode, the relay
coils, the headlamp switch terminal, the dimmer switch, and finally through the sealed beam filaments to ground.

Has anyone else encountered an issue with getting the door to close. AAW recommended trying to tap into the lead wire to the high/beam switch on the floor with a resistor. I haven't tried that yet.

Thanks

You could use a resistor placed on the light blue wire of relay R1 to ground but it would need to be a pretty big power resistor. The resistance would need to be around 6 ohms and the wattage would need to be 38W or more. A better solution is to use a relay. Here's a circuit showing how to connect relay R4.

You don't need to use the same type of relay as used in the original headlight door circuit. Any standard 12V automotive relay will work.

Thanks for the insight. I have a relay on hand and will start with that approach.

Reading the diagram

86 - ground
87a - ground
87 + 30 - light blue from coming from the dash
85 - back to original relay one terminal

I updated the circuit with the terminal numbers, so trying clicking it again.

Just in case that doesn't work:
85 and 87a: Ground
86 and 87: L Blue wire from connector
30: L Blue wire to R1

Got it Thanks!

did this end up working for you?

They open and close but I think i still have an issue somewhere and can't determine if i wired wrong or something else.

They open with the switch and key on.
When I turn them off the lights go off but the doors stay open
When I turn the key off then back on one closes one stays open
If i tap the open on it will close - it acts like a dead spot or stuck

After putting it together i just haven't had the time / motivation to figure this out.
