Firebird hood / hood tach opinion needed am I nuts or innovative?

I have a super 400 hood from Spotts going on my 68 firebird. Basically its a stock style 400 hood but the center and scoops are raised 1.5 inches making for a more aggressing look to the car and more clearance under the hood. I have always had a hood tach on the car and want to stay with one. The problem is the 68 style hood tach will look to small next to the larger scoops in my opinion so I bought a 67 tach witch is taller. Here is my idea. I would like to split the 67 tach housing and widen it somewhat and graft it right to the hood to get rid of the seam between the hood and the tach. Hopefully this will strengthen the hood enough to allow me to set up a way to excess/install the electronics from the bottom and give me enough room to place a shift light in the tach housing next to the tach. I have attached a picture of the hood. What do you think? Is it plausible to set it up like that or am I asking for problems.

I also added a picture of what we did to hopfully avoid hood pins to hold it down. We cut the latching area off an original flat hood I had laying around and grafted it onto the fiberglass hood so we can retain the factory style latching system with the safty catch. I took the idea from looking at a factory fiberglass formula hood off second gen firebird.

leaving tach alone

I took the tach to the body shop and placed it on the hood. It matches up pretty good and I don't think it would look as nice if I made it wide so thats good news. Less time and money!

Those were my thoughts too. Depending on the car/hood, some of the tachs look to big to start off with.
