Pressure washing deck question.
 

One of my crew members power washed a deck and didn’t do a proper pattern and when we stained you can see lines and swirls. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Can we re power wash it or will we have to sand?

If you used just the pressure washer wand it leaves strips. You need to get a pressure washer surface cleaner attachment. It cleans evenly.

I’m not sure what hear he used. as you can see it’s not good though

What was on the deck before he started? Had it been stained already or just greyed wood?

Unfortunately I'm betting it'll take sanding to even out the marks then a reseal.

Yeah it was stained prior too. I am hoping another correct power wash will even it, but we shall see

He didn't know what he was doing. You can make it right without attachments, but you have to be at the proper distance and speed. Looks like he used a zero tip which you'd never use for that project. You should be able to even it out. I would use a 25-40 degree fan tip or similar.

That needs to be sanded, but it looks like there was something applied to the deck already (some kind of sealer) which will just kill sandpaper quick. Even if you put a drum sander on it with someone that knows how to run it, it'll kill belts quick. You should let the deck weather a while, then go at it. It's a shame the guy that washed it didn't know the proper way to use the machine.

Well I sanded it down and fixed it. On another note there is stain on the concrete as well. Anyone have any ideas how to remove oil based stain? I have tried mineral spirits and oxygen bleach with no luck

muriatic acid is your best bet... had the same thing happen when the painter didn't put down drop-cloths when staining my second story deck.

He needs to fully flush the Bleach he put down already - Mixing bleach, or sodium hypochlorite with muriatic acid will liberate chlorine gas, which is definitely toxic, and a severe irritant to eyes and nasal passages and the lungs even in small amounts. ... The acid is strong if breathed in but is deadly if mixed with chlorine.
