Help ID these front spindles please
Helping a neighbor correct a 1979 eBay Camaro...can't get the ride height he wants because tires will hit fenders.
https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...wsK7WQn-XL.jpg Stock OEM upper and lower arms, but this aftermarket spindle with SSBC calipers. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...mRJZVVr-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...dLKL8rS-XL.jpg It's a 245/45/17 tire on an 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace. Looks like the steering arm will keep from going much deeper backspace... https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...3N2JGnv-XL.jpg Here is the brake setup. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...Pcv6P8F-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...HwjcT2q-XL.jpg The car won't be raced or anything like that, strictly a street cruiser. It appears to me someone put this spindle on just so they could use these calipers and rotors, but the spindle pushes the wheel WAY out... Trying to figure out the most reasonable cost\part option to get the tire to tuck into the fender instead of sticking out of it. Thanks, Lance |
So, I found the spindle
https://westernchassisinc.com/75-79-...-drop-spindle/ Now I just need to figure out if we can make it work or not? Anyone have any experience with these? |
That spindle says it is for a Nova, and they aren't the same as a Camaro. I don't know the differences, but know they are different.
If I had any stock Camaro spindles, I'd donate them, but alas... |
I found a set of B Body spindles with 2nd Gen brakes on them local that we are going to trial fit today. Hopefully with them and the 2" drop springs it'll get him in the ball park. I'm pretty sure the drop spindles are what is creating most of the issue here.
|
B-body spindles work. I used them on the old CP car to use the 12" B-body rotors.
|
Common side effect of drop spindles is limited back spacing due to the Tie-rod end or the wheel contacting the lower a-arm.
