Air bags in seats
 

I was looking at newer car seats for my 68 Camaro. Is there a chance the air bags in them will go off like some of the ones in steeering wheels on their own? Anyone take the air bag out?

Anything is possible but without power to them I'd say you're safe

With no power hooked to them, no they won't go off. They are really a lot safer then people think they are. Since the seats aren't hooked up to any wire harnesses it is a good time to remove them. normally its 2-3 nuts that hold them in.

Find a buddy that has some experience with blowing up air bags to deploy them for you before you throw them in the trash. You could also take them to a dealer and ask them if they can dispose of them for you. For the lame people there is a special tool that you bolt them to so they can be deployed safely. For the fun people, we normally put them in stuff like upside down 55g drums and see how high they go lol.

Air bags are under compressed air cylinders. Correct, it does use electricity. But, the small little cylinder that is pressurized and it doesn't need electricity to expel its air and deploy the bag often times. The best way is to remove the cylinder or otherwise, yes...it can and will deploy.

From what I know they are safe without electricity. I mean they ship them everywhere. I guess if you can remove the bag do it , if not... meh .risk it lmao.Then again I'm not a tech . Pretty sure @camaroaj is thou

Airbags contain sodium azide and it takes electricity to ignite it to deploy them. I've exploded many of them with a 9V or cordless impact battery.

If the connectors are unplugged there is a provision in them that shorts the two terminals together so an errant electrical charge won't set them off. If you leave them in you can just short the two wires together with a crimp connector for added protection, but I would just take them out.
