chemically cleaning plastic grill
I have a black grill for a 68 Camaro (non RS) and was prepping to paint. I sanded, washed with soap and water, wax and grease remover. Then I sprayed with an adhesion promoter and it lifted big time. Back to square 1 :EmoteClueless: not sure if there if it can be soda blasted or chemically dipped to clean it down to the base. Anyone have any suggestions?

I once attempted to overhaul my original grill but eventually gave up. I didn't have the same issues as you which led me to that decision, however the reproduction grill painted easily.

Some plastics don’t need adhesion promoter. Cut off a small piece and place it in water to see if it floats. If it’s a floater you need promoter.... If it doesn’t float then no ad pro is needed.
Presta Scuff Stuff is a good way to prep parts. Then apply a good epoxy primer such as SPI. Don |
