Who knows about 60's Lincoln Continentals?
 

The wife has put me on another search..... a suicide door (is there another kind?!) 60's Continental..... which I know nothing about other than they are pretty dang cool.

I have a 64 locally I am going to look at one of these days -- its a driver, original condition, fair asking price.

And info and tips for me from those in the know?

I don't know much about them either other than they're just plain cool as hell. 2-doors rule, but that's the only 4-door I'll drive as a classic car.

Do not buy a project that needs work. They are cool as hell, but they are a nightmare mechanically. Especially a convertible. Make sure everything electrical works. I bet you can ask anyone who has worked on one will tell you the same thing.

I hear ya -- not many 4 doors I am interested in either, but I did like our 4 door 63 Nova wagon we had for a couple years.

Watched this vid again today, and wow, Jay’s guest, John Cashman, who has 40 years experience just on the 61-67 Continentals, covers so much ground on the shared features/systems on the hardtops too. For Leno to do a 50 minute vid is unusual, but the content is that good imho. Tough to not be enthusiastic about the 61-69 Continentals after watching it, even as complex as they can be.

Those cars can be a mechanical nightmare imho, especially the early years. I would never own one FWIW.

I worked on a lot of them back in the day.

I actually had 66 for short time. Mine had the 430 motor. It's not unusual to have main bearing rattle in those.

I swear the intake manifold must weigh 100 pounds :yes:

OH. MY. GOD.

Spent a solid two weeks going through every limit switch and motor on a convertible car just to get it to work properly......and then found more relays hidden in the kick panel. YaY

Wipers run off the power steering pump.

Door locks are vacuum. Can't buy gaskets for the switches.

The early steering boxes are model specific and mounted in rubber (!?) I had to get two from Red Head to come up with a good one.

I could go on and on but I sure felt cool driving it.

Ha, you guys are starting to scare me here.
