Benefits of DBW Over DBC?

Running a 236/254 119 LSA and a Sniper 102mm TB. It’s hard to:

- Get a good stable idle that will cold start with no issue.
- Get it to quiet down, this IAC port makes a dog whistle sound
- Get the throttle to open ALL the way when the throttle linkage and pedal is adjusted.

Let me l know your thoughts. This is with the Terminator X Max. I do have the harness and LS3 TB and Pedal.

I like to get the engine up to operating temp and set my hot idle speed with the throttle body screw and the IAC shut down (as closed as possible). If you have the idle timing activated, shut it off for this so the only thing controlling the idle speed is the throttle body set screw. That way it's not having to use the bypassed air just to maintain your base idle speed, and you'll have full use of the IAC when it's needed, like a/c kicking on, cold start, etc. After you set that have the idle timing activated so the ECU can use timing to stabilize the idle speed. I usually allow at least 5-6 degrees +/- at idle. I also run about 30 degrees of base timing in the idle section, most of my builds are happier there.

As far getting full throttle if you can't adjust the cable to get it then you may have to change where the cable attaches on the throttle body or the pedal itself, to get more movement.

I much prefer DBW and recommend it to all of my customers. Having DBW opens up a whole different dimension for tuning, which is especially helpful with a manual transmission car.

I am also sure that some of the issues that you are having is probably related to your tune. I do remote Holley EFI tuning and if I can be of service, please let me know.

So I did the conversion.

I will never go back to cable in my life. Drive by wires customization is simply remarkable and adds a lot more enjoyment and excitement behind the wheel. Best couple of 100 dollars I spent.

Glad to hear about your positive experience!

If I can be of service with tuning, please let me know.

The whistle is because you have a chinese throttle body on the engine(snipers are rebranded Alibaba). The chinese IAC port is machined poorly, wrong angle, size, etc. With a brand name one like Edelbrock or Nick Williams... Ive never had a noise.

I definitely agree with this. The IAC port was not only small but very deep and the opening edges were very sharp. I just got a GM 87mm for $40 from the salvage yard works great.

Yea we have purchased many of these and modified several of the ports to quieten them down. Throttle bodies get expensive. 112mm DBW from Kong is over 1k USD. But with big power, cam shafts, air turbulence... the stock stuff wigs out, especially in turbo applications at big boost. Thus switching to cable. I actually went dbw to cable and love every single moment of it. But its great quality and it shows. Big cam, big boost, injector dynamic injectors, nick williams throttle body, stock ecu making north of 1200whp and drives like stock.

Happy to hear everything worked out and youre happy with the results! I know I miss the simplicity of cruise control and throttle closing on WOT shifts!

The throttle will close on an automatic when it up shifts?

Yeah I’m only running 13# as my motor breathes so well. That’s with a 2.45 and 9.1 too.

Just my .02, DBW would be my choice but when I was looking for options there wasn’t anything out there for mast 4500 flange (old school intake) but tuning and just routing a throttle cable would be much easier!
