GMPP Super Magnum T56 vs TUET11009

Is there a difference between the GMPP Super Magnum T56 and the T56 (TUET11009) which most of the aftermarket transmission vendors sell? I talked to a GM performance dealer about pricing and they said their cost was several hundred dollars higher than the going rate for the aftermarket T56 Magnums.

Super mag has a 40 tooth reluctor so the ecu can read speed. That is literally the only thing. Now if your smart the best way is to buy the cheaper one, get your engine tuned and while he’s at it change the speedometer info and bam you have the same thing.

interesting, so nobody converts these to the 40 tooth reluctor?

Why? Just take 3 min to change the ecu settings and your done

Long story short you use this conversion
Your gear ratio / (40/transmission tooth reluctor)

The description in camaros.net also worked perfectly for me: LSA w/ Tremec Magnum, 3.60 rear. Leave the VSS pulses at 40, multiply the actual rear gear ratio by 12/40 and enter that value, which came out to 1.08 for me, in the Final Drive, Speedo tab in HP Tuners VCM Editor. I'd be scared to drive my car without the reverse lockout function working correctly!

Why is that??

Because it’s easy to think your going into 5th but instead you
Go into reverse.

RLO has to be energized to retract the actuator to access reverse. If it's not functioning properly most likely it's not energized (ie, it's going to be a PITA to get it into Reverse).

If it's always energized, it wont block you out of reverse but the gate is still well offset of 5th where that shouldn't be a concern any time other than trying to power shift or slam 5th gear, which most wont be doing.

I recently had a VSS issue on my car where the VSS was reading 0 mph constantly. I can understand Randy’s concern when I tried to shift into 5th the first time. I didn’t and immediately unplugged the RLO plug until I figured the issue out. Luckily it was an easy fix.

William, if it is always energized open (like mine was) because the system was operating (what inputs the PCM had), the 5th/reverse shift detent is very hard to figure out while driving. Didn’t want to chance at shifting into reverse at 50 mph 😂
