Project king snake wheels
 
Hello everyone i wanted to get ideas and thoughts to help me pick wheels im looking to keep the originality of the car on the outside and keep it period/era correct but modern, its a 78 king cobra mustang and i was thinking halibrand/bbs style wheel wanted to know what your thoughts are and if you have any picture suggestions for the car i want to go 17 inch wheels since it is a small car with a 315 on the back and 245 on the front so 17x8 and 17x11

Are you going to convert to five lug hubs?

If so, BMW wheels might be a solution for you if you don't want to pay aftermarket pricing. Style 5 and Style 42 rims are typically easy to find in 17 inch. Widths will be limited to 7 or 8 inches though.

Also, how important is handling to you over looks? You may have issues with pushing/understeer putting an 11 on the back with an 8 up front. Can you go wider in the front?

I like your idea in general though. A mesh wheel is a classic look that will complement the car well in a more modern size.

Yes i have 13 inch 04 cobra brakes for the car which now im debating on going with a bigger kit but for now they will work, also the front is very tight i would love to get a bigger tire under he car but i have to get the tool and take measurements for clearnaces i know that the 245 will work from others trying it so thats what im basing it off of. what do you recoment tire size wise for the front?

My two cents:

Wheels make the car
Brakes make the wheels

Wheel selection is driven by what your brake package looks like.

Nice calipers and rotors allow a more open spoke wheel
If you don’t, use a more closed wheel center.

If you plan to stay 17in for the wheels, 13in brakes are fine. You could even go 18in for wheels with 13in brakes. Performance wise, 13in brakes are more than enough for any street car.

I have no suggestion on front tire width aside from try to balance it with the rear if optimizing handling is a main focus. These old muscle cars tend to be front heavy already. You put a lot more grip in the rear by going with a much wider tire and you just end up pushing the front through turns. If you want looks and some better handling, you should be fine with 8 front and 11 rear. It's up to you and what the main purpose of the car is going to be.

Thank you both so much for the info and input! These are my front brakes 04 terminator cobra brakes rotors and calipers

And I was leaning towards these two styles of wheels I really love the halibrand wheels

I’m going to do more homework and see if I can get 9 inch wheel on the front with a wider tire

The wheel you “pictured” above would be STUNNING for your pony.
It fits your theme for the car.
I cannot help with sizing but trust the above advice.
I kid you not.., your wheel selection is “spot on”!

Your first two images didn't come through with me. Halibrand style wheels would look great in my opinion. That particular wheel with the exposed hardware might be a pain to keep clean around the hardware though. It does look good though.
