I need some opinions: restoring a 65' Mustang
 

Well I have been working on the 1965 mustang coupe I picked up last summer and have put the camaro on hold. I bought the mustang as an investment. I know what you guys are thinking, mustangs do have poor resale value due to their being tons of mustangs out there. It was a good buy. I have tore into the car to find out the body is in great shape overall. The car had been hit on the left rear quarter at one time but there is zero rust on the car do to it has been setting in a farmers barn for 14 years. It is a 289 car that was a special order to a Ford Dealership in OKC. The car doesn't have the matching motor or trans. The interior is near perfect from it's original. state. I am wondering whether to put the car back original or to update the car with disc brakes, larger wheel and tire combo, a few suspension mods. I am trying to get some opinions on what you guys think. I have checked to see what the car will be worth orig. and I think most of the cars are around 10,11k in a fully detailed resto.-thats not much in my opinion. I am leaning towards investing a little more money into a more street machine type car and thinking that I can make a bit more profit. What do you guys think? If you were building a car like this what route would you take? Some of you have seen my body work and ideas. Sorry for the long post. :)

no feedback...well I guess most of us aren't really interested in the mustangs anyways. I was just hoping to get some ideas of which direction I should take with this project. I had in mind to go back original and swap in the pony interior and paint it red and add GT wheels.

I am not a mustang guy but I will give you my best guess. The fastbacks are bringing all of the cash so unless you make it a little different it is going to be a hard sell. I would find a wrecked mustang 92 ($1000) or newer with a 5.0 and fuel injection and swap in the motor and 5 speed. Put some paint on it and a cool set of rims and cut her loose. Use the wiring harness and gas tank and you are all set...A La Factory Five Cobra style.

You could always put it back together and put it on ebay, make a few bucks and move on. The biggest draw back is it is going to cost you as much to do this car as it would a fastback and the fastback would bring twice the money with the same amount of work.

Well is it a Coupe or a Fastback?? A nice running /driving 65-70 FB will bring the 8-12K on Ebay but no matching #'s doesnt matter unless its a Shelby or a "K" code car. I would say fix it like you want it but Restoring it is not the way to go. You are on a Pro Touring type site so you must have interest in PT so go that way with it and have fun!!!! :thumbsup:
