Vintage air and smooth firewall in 1st gen

Anyone been down this path where they smoothed the firewall then realized they needed those holes to mount the vintage air box? I seen DSE had a bracket for a 69 but mine is a 68 camaro and not sure it would be the same.

Any slick ways guys got around mounting the box?
Thanks

Years ago, I purchased the mounting cage from DSE to mount the Vintage Air unit under the dash on my '67. Fit perfectly with no holes in the firewall.

Thank you. I wouldn't think under the dash would be much different in years

Position it where you want it and weld studs to the inner firewall before you finish and paint the engine bay side.

Getting nuts on the top studs and tightening is pain and takes time. Least was for me.

I did the same.

I looked into thus a bit more. Guy at DSE told me under the dash is different on a 69 and their frame wouldn't work. Surely it could be modified but they are out of stock. The good thing I did, the holes are still in the original firewall so I know where studs would need to go. I trimmed some of the lip off but left the holes!
I am going to try elevator bolts and see if I can use the.

I have a DSE vintage air bracket I'm willing to sell, it was prefitted to the car and one of the mounting brackets may have been slightly modified. Make me an offer if you're interested

my firewall was smoothed and painted. I used weld mount adhesive and studs. Its been fine since 2010

Bought one 3 weeks ago - wish I had known I would have taken it then. Very easy to install - works great.
