Project "Pony XS"

This will be a slightly unorthodox build thread. I brought my 1966 Mustang coup to fastback conversion home on April 24, 2019. I had aspirations of it being a 2 year project, but who ever gets done on time! I'll be starting from the conversion and show how I got to the point in the video below. It doesn't seem like there are many Mustang builds on here, but i enjoy this site better than the vintage Mustang sites, so here ya go!

Much more to come.

Thanks, this is a very cool project.

Sounds gnarly and looks cool. I dig it.

Is the 69TA in the background a clone or real? Have any info you care to share on it? I love 69 birds.

Very nice. Sweet car collection as well.

The 69 Firebird was a long project that taught me a lot. Somehow, that thing runs identical lap times to a 2015 Z/28 that I had (sold during COVID for 150% of what I paid for it in 2018!). It needs a few things to finish it off...like windows.

The fastback has a 510 horse 363 built by Prestige Motorsports. With that and all of the Street or Track suspension, it should be able to get down too!

Next on the list is the Active Performance GT40 in the back stall.

Will be interesting to see the coupe to fastback conversion. Shaun at SorT makes really nice parts. Which system do you use on the front and back.

This is what it looks like when you tell Shaun "I wanna go fast". In there is a floating 9" with Strange center, Watts link, coil overs, sub frame connectors, sway bar, big brakes, billet spindles, steering rack, and probably a few things I forgot!

I'm in the process of sorting out all of my build pictures.

I purchased the 66 coup for a friend in the restoration business (he also painted my Firebird). His specialty is Shelbys. He had the nearly rust free Arizona car in his shed. He also had the fast back donor car sitting behind his shop. We ended up using its roof inner structure, along with the other new pieces needed for the conversion. This saved a fair amount of money. The doors had some rot in them in the usual spots, but the rest of the car was solid.
