68 Camaro Wayne Due chassis
I have a Wayne Due chassis I purchased back in 1999. I'm finally ready to move forward with the project, but I haven't had any luck finding what rack and pinion is uses. I know several frame iterations were made, but I have one of the first ones. My mounting points measure 16" on center. Does anyone know what steering rack I need, or have a part number?
|
I believe the rack is from a Fox body Mustang (not Mustang II), not positive.

I have a Wayne Due frame in my 67 Camaro. Using a Cardone 22-207 rack.
|
I just ordered a 22-207 rack, so we'll see if that works. I noticed the 22-207 has 15.5" mounting centers. Do you have to run a bushing offset kit on yours? My mounting points are 16".
|
The 16" centers are Mustang II 74-78. 15 1/5 is Fox Mustang.
The offset bushings are weird as I always thought the drivers side mount was in the same location in relation to the inner tie rod ends on both racks. To word it differently, between the two racks the passenger side mount is a 1/2" different as opposed to both mounts moving a 1/4". |
I tried the 22-207 Cardone rack, and it did not fit. My subframe was ordered in 1999. Any more ideas of what rack Wayne Due was using then?

The information you need is in the post above. With 16" centers you need the Mustang II rack.
I personally would buy the offset bushings from unisteer and run the cardone rack you have. |
I can measure mine in about another week and can take some pictures. I don't recall having spacers but will check and let you know.

I have offset bushing for the 16" center. My problem is the mounting tabs on the frame are to low, and the rack hits the side rails before it reaches the mounting position. I also purchased a 82-88 Mustang II rack from Speedway that didn't fit.

82-88 is not Mustang II.
74-78 is Mustang II. This has the 16" centers. |
