Cross Ram tuning, where to start?
1 Attachment(s)
I picked up this old Edelbrock X-C8 crossram and i'm looking for advice on carbs. Holley recommends the 450 tunnel ram carbs but others have said to go with the 600's. Any of y'all ever set one up and get it tuned good?
It's going on a mild SBC 383 stroker, 401hp @ 5200 rpm 437tq @ 4200 rpm 5500 rpm rev limiter |
The manifolds look cool, but were not the best performing setups. Seemed to work good at WOT. I would be thinking a pair of 390's or 450's max on a mild small block that's a street car.

cant be any harder than a 'normal' tunnel ram or any dual carb intake really. you might have to get one of those cones that go over each carb so you can get them balanced but any tunnel ram, or dual carb rig ive had, i just tweak each carb a little by little and then readjust idle on each. its really not that hard, and even easier if you have a nice smooth not lumpy cam |
I set it up with a pair of QFT 450's. Had the vac advance and pcv hooked up from both carbs to a "T" then to the dist and pcv... it didn't like it. I removed all the vacuum stuff, removed the vacuum advance from the dist, locked out the mechanical advance, set the timing at 32 degrees, and now she seems to be happy and snappy.
Still need to build some stainless braid fuel lines https://youtu.be/XHno2DRU5M4 |

I built a manometer based on a video from Unity MotorSports Garage you tube channel. I'm going to see if I can get these balanced with my home made carb tool.
